COMMUNITY SHIELD RETURNS TO FREE-TO-AIR TV

The FA Community Shield will be shown on free-to-air television for the first time in years as the new season kicks off.

ITV will screen the match between FA Cup winners Leicester City and Premier League champions Man City.

The game will be at Wembley and will kick-off at 5pm on Saturday with coverage starting from 4.30pm.

Mark Pougatch will anchor coverage alongside Ian Wright, Emile Heskey and Roy Keane.

ITV will show the game as part of their new FA Cup deal which means they will share rights to the FA Cup with BBC. It means the competition will be completely free-to-air after BT Sport lost their share of games to ITV – see HERE

The four-year agreement will see the FA Cup final being shown by both the BBC and ITV while the broadcasters will show a semi-final each.

Up to six games a round will be shown from the first round proper in November with replays also included in the deal.

ITV will show up to 28 games a season from the Cup and BBC up to 18. Details of how the preliminary rounds will be covered have yet to be confirmed. The BBC has been offering red button and BBC iPlayer live matches from the very first rounds of the competition as part of the current deal.
