PARAMOUNT SNATCH CHAMPIONS LEAGUE UK TV RIGHTS FROM TNT AS SKY TAKE EUROPA GAMES

What we know

  • Paramount+ win rights to the majority of the Champions League games in the UK for four years from the 2027-28 season.
  • Amazon Prime keep their ‘first pick’ Tuesday night game.
  • Sky Sports will show the Europa League and Europa Conference League after taking the rights from TNT.
  • FREE-TO-AIR highlights remain on the BBC.

TNT Sports has lost its live European football rights to Paramount+ and Sky Sports in a major shake-up.

Paramount+ will take over TNT rights Champions League rights from the start of the 2027-28 season.

Amazon Prime will keep their current rights which gives it the ‘first pick’ Tuesday game in the UK.

And in a further blow to TNT, Sky Sports has snatched its Europa League and Europa Conference League rights. Again the deal will come into force from 2027.

Paramount already hold the Champions League rights in America where they broadcast matches through CBS Sports and Paramount+. Clips of their acclaimed studio coverage – hosted by Kate Abdo and including Thierry Henry, Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards – regularly gain traction on social media in the UK.

Paramount are the parent company of Channel 5 in the UK which will lead to speculation that they could make some matches free-to-air, although it is in no way guaranteed that would be a strategy they’d pursue. TNT currently make the finals of all three competitions available without a subscription online.

The cheapest UK subscription for Paramount+ is £4.99, although Sky Cinema subscribers get it bundled in their package for free.

Sky are heralding their new Europa deal as meaning they can offer live football every day of the week along with their other rights which include the Premier League, EFL, Scottish football and Women’s Super League.

The BBC has also retained its highlights package. It will continue to produce the Champions League version of Match of the Day and have mini highlights packages on the BBC iPlayer and BBC Sport.
