WHO’S SHOWING WOMEN’S FOOTBALL ON TV?

WOMEN’S SUPER LEAGUE

EVERY Women’s Super League game will be shown live on UK TV for the first time as part of a new five-year deal between the WSL, Sky and the BBC.

Sky will be the lead partner in the agreement showing up to 118 matches live – 78 of those fixtures will be shown exclusively on Sky including all matches from the closing weekend of the season.

Of the remaining matches, 34 will be shared non-exclusively between Sky and the WSL YouTube channel, and seven will broadcast on both Sky and the BBC.

Sky plan to make a new regular Sunday lunchtime slot of 12noon for most of their Women’s Super League games with matches showing at the same time across its main sports channels and Sky Sports+ service. For weekends when the men’s domestic game is depleted due to international fixtures, the WSL TV games will be staggered across multiple kick-off times to maximise exposure.

The BBC will broadcast live coverage of a total of 21 matches, including 14 on BBC TV and seven shared on BBC iPlayer and BBC digital platforms. The BBC’s games will generally be on Sunday afternoons, but with some on Saturday lunchtime.

The new deal also gives Sky the option to show matches from the Women’s Championship (which is being rebranded WSL2) and Women’s League Cup, including the Final. All WSL2 games will be live on YouTube.

WOMEN’S FA CUP

THE WOMEN’S FA Cup will see a major overhaul in TV coverage for the new season with the Football Association agreeing a three-year deal with TNT Sports and Channel 4.

TNT will show 19 games across the season including for the first time on UK TV one game from round one and one from round two.

Channel 4 will show one match per round from the third round. Channel 4’s six live games will also be on TNT Sports including the final which will be shown by both broadcasters.

WOMEN’S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

IT’S ALL change for TV coverage of the UEFA Women’s Champions League in the new season with Disney+ agreeing a five-year deal to show EVERY game from the competition on its platform.

All 75 matches – including the final – will be streamed live by Disney who are taking over the rights from DAZN.

UEFA has already stated it plans for some of the games will also be screened on free-to-air TV as well as Disney. Although not confirmed it’s reported the BBC will take that role in the UK screening a selection of the games.
